What iPod or iPhone Do You Have?

With all the new (and old) iPods and iPhones on the market it is easy to get confused with what iPod you actually own. Well to make life easier for you we, at iWorld, have listed all the iPods that are available to buy! Take a look at the pictures above to identify your iPod and then use the compatibility icons on each listing (and outlined below) to make sure the accessory you buy will work with your iPod.

What do iWorld's iPod compatibility icons mean?

Check out iWorld’s iPod compatibility icons at the bottom of every listing to see if your iPod is compatible with your chosen accessory. Below is a guide to our compatibility icons so you can be totally sure the accessory you buy will work with your iPod. There's an icon for every iPod as well as icons for docking iPods and all other iPods. And if you're still in doubt and want to be sure that the accessory will work with your iPod, refer to the text in the listing for more specific compatibility.

iPhone 3G
Although similar in size and weight to the iPhone 2G, the iPhone 3G has a few subtle differences. You can do all the same things on the iPhone 3G but the iPhone 3G has 3G wireless technology and GPS capabilities, a black (8GB) or white (8GB or 16GB) plastic back and a flush headphone jack so you can use any set of headphones! This icon means that the accessory will work with the 8GB or 16GB iPhone 3G.
iPhone 2G
The iPhone 2G is a mobile phone iPod. Featuring a large touchscreen you can make and take phone calls, send text messages, listen to music, view videos and browse the Internet via Wi-Fi or EDGE. The headphone jack is slightly recessed so you’ll need a headphone adaptor if you want to use different headphones. This icon means that the accessory will work with the 4GB, 8GB or 16GB iPhone.
iPod Touch
A touchscreen, a Wi-Fi web browser and a CoverFlow interface are the main features of the new iPod Touch. The iPod Touch features a large multi-touch screen from which you can control all your music, photos, videos and web browsing. This icon means that the accessory will work with the 8GB, 16GB or 32GB iPod Touch.
iPod Classic
The new iPod Classic has a sleek, all metal design and is available with either 80GB or 160GB of storage. You can enjoy both audio and video playback, up to 40 hours of audio playback and features the new CoverFlow interface. This icon means that the accessory will work with any type (colour and size) of the iPod Classic.
New iPod nano (3rd Generation)
The new iPod nano 3G is thinner and shorter than the previous iPod nanos and features video playback thanks to a larger, brighter display that delivers great picture quality. When you see this icon the accessory will work with any of the five new colours and both 4GB and 8GB versions.
iPod shuffle (2nd Generation)
The new iPod shuffle also doesn't have a screen. It plugs into the computer via an included USB dock. It has a small thumb control but no wheel. If you see this icon it means that the product works with any colour of the new 1GB iPod shuffle.
iPod nano (2nd Generation)
The iPod nano has both the dock connector port (USB compatible) and the headphone jack on the bottom of the iPod. It has a colour screen and Apple's click wheel. This icon means that the product will work with the 2GB, 4GB and 8GB, iPod nano 2G models of any colour.
iPod video (5th Generation)
The iPod with video capabilities comes in 3 hard drive sizes, 30GB, 60GB and the more recent 80GB. It has a dock connector port on the bottom that syncs and charges via USB but not FireWire. It has a colour screen and Apple's click wheel. This icon means that the accessory will work with any black or white iPod video.
All dock iPods
Docking iPods include all the new iPods (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPod Classic, new nano 3G) as well as the 2nd Generation nano, 1st Generation nano, iPod video 5th Generation, iPod mini, iPod Photo, 4th Generation iPods and finally 3rd Generation iPods. This icon means that the accessory will work with any of the iPods detailed above no matter what the colour or size!
All other iPods
If you see the All Other iPods icon on a listing then you can be sure that the product will work with any iPod – newer, recent or older iPod models. These accessories either usually connect with the iPod via the iPod 3.5mm headphone jack or don’t need to connect to the iPod at all! Please note this does not include the iPhone.

Older iPod Compatibility Icons

Some iPods grow older and no longer have quite the cache they used to have. These include the 1st Generation nano, iPod mini, iPod Photo, 4th Generation iPods, 3rd Generation iPods as well as the 1st and 2nd Generation iPods. The icons for these older iPods are outlined below and are still used on iWorld so you can be sure that the accessory you want to buy will work with your older iPod.

iPod nano (1st Generation)
The iPod nano 1G is the first iPod nano introduced by Apple and has both the dock connector port (USB compatible) and the headphone jack on the bottom of the iPod. It has a colour screen and Apple's click wheel. This icon means that the product will work with the 1GB, 2GB and 4GB, black and white iPod nano models.
iPod shuffle (1st Generation)
The 1st generation iPod shuffle doesn't have a screen and plugs directly into your computer via the USB port. It has a small thumb control but no wheel. If you see this icon it means that the product works with the 512MB or the 1GB older iPod shuffle.
iPod mini
The iPod mini comes in 5 colours and 2 hard drive sizes. It has a dock connector port on the bottom that syncs and charges with USB or FireWire. The screen is black and white monochrome (blue and white on later models) and has Apple's click wheel. This icon means the product will work with any iPod mini (4GB or 6GB) in any colour.
iPod Photo
This iPod has a USB and FireWire compatible dock connector on the bottom of the iPod and a headphone port on top. It has a colour screen and Apple's click wheel. This icon covers a few iPods - the iPod photo (30GB, 40GB and 60GB), the iPod with colour screen (20GB and 60GB) and the colour screen Special Edition U2 iPod. As these iPods are different sizes, you will need to check on the listing as to what size accessory will work with your particular size of iPod.
4th Generation iPod
The 4th Generation iPod has a USB and FireWire compatible dock connector on the bottom of the iPod and a headphone port on top. It features the Apple click wheel as well as a blue and white monochrome screen. If you see this icon it means the accessory will work with the 20GB and 40GB iPods and the non-colour screen U2 iPod. Refer to the product listing for compatibility with different sizes.
3rd Generation iPod
The 3rd Generation iPod has 4 small buttons under the screen and a touch wheel. It is USB and FireWire compatible for synching, but will charge only with FireWire. It has a black and white monochrome display. This icon means that the accessory will work with the 10GB, 15GB, 20GB, 30GB or 40GB. As there is quite a difference in sizes refer to the product listing for more specific size compatibility.
1st & 2nd Generation iPod
These iPods have a scroll wheel and 4 buttons circling the wheel. They connect to sync and charge via FireWire on top of the iPod and do not have a dock connector port. They have a black and white monochrome display. The accessories bearing this icon will fit the 5GB, 10GB and 20GB, 1st and 2nd Generation iPod models.
